‘Women on the Water’ conference moves to Calif. due to Ike

The following is an announcement by the U.S. Maritime Administration:

(VALLEJO, Calif.) — Due to the extensive damage Galveston Island sustained during Hurricane Ike, the Women of the Water (WOW) conference is moving to California. We would like to thank the California Maritime Academy for hosting this conference on short notice and our thoughts are with the students, faculty, and staff at Texas Maritime Academy, Texas A & M University and all of those who have suffered at the hands of Hurricane Ike.

The 2nd Annual Women on the Water Conference will provide an open forum for discussions highlighting current issues affecting women in the maritime industry. During this event you will hear from professional experts in the maritime community regarding such issues as environmental changes, human factors affecting mariners at sea, industry trends, emerging employment opportunities, and regulatory changes affecting the maritime industry. This will be an invaluable opportunity for maritime cadets and professional women alike to network, build relationships, share experiences and learn about the industry from those women currently leading the industry.

For questions regarding the annual Women on the Water Conference, please send inquires via email to womenonthewater@dot.gov.
