Witnesses: Katmai had problems with stability, life rafts

(SEATTLE) — Witnesses at a Coast Guard hearing on the Katmai disaster reported that the vessel had stability problems, the Seattle Times reported. One of the Alaska fishing vessel’s two life rafts may have failed to inflate. Former engineers reported that the vessel rolled, and it may have carried an improper stability plan on fueling that could have caused the stern to dip.
