Harbor pilot calls new whale-protection speed limit ‘very unsafe’

(BRUNSWICK, Ga.) — A harbor pilot at Brunswick, Ga., says the new 10 mph speed limit adopted to protect whales is “very unsafe,” the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper reported. The World Shipping Council says it disagrees with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s scientific findings regarding the protection of right whales. The Georgia Port Authority says it wants to use high-tech buoys to track and protect the whales.
