(NEW YORK) — Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Fire Island medically evacuated two individuals from a barge in Fire Island Inlet on Monday evening.
Watch standers at Station Fire Island received notification from the barge Reggie at approximately 5 p.m., stating a suspected malfunction of a barge pump system that resulted in multiple injuries, including a head injury and lacerations.
The rescue crew aboard a 45-foot response boat-medium arrived on scene at approximately 5:30 p.m. Two crewmembers were safely transferred from the barge Reggie and taken to awaiting emergency medical services at Station Fire Island for transfer to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, N.Y.
The third crewmember aboard the barge Reggie was transported by the vessel’s safety officer to Good Samaritan Hospital.
The crewmembers conditions are currently unknown.
