(LOS ANGELES) — The once-proud steamship SS Catalina is being scrapped in Mexico, the Los Angeles Times reported. Several harbors in California and elsewhere had hosted the historic vessel in recent years, but in the end no one made a commitment to overhauling the 302-foot “Great White Steamer.” The ship, commissioned by William Wrigley, was used for 50 years to ferry well-heeled passengers to Avalon.
