Columnist forecasts cruise-industry mergers, mothballed vessels

(VENTURA, Calif.) — A California cruise-industry veteran says in a newspaper column that he expects the economic downturn to cause upheaval in the U.S. cruise industry. The column in the Ventura County Star forecasts an overcapacity of ships and says cruise lines are likely to mothball vessels, merge with each other and perhaps try to delay construction of new vessels.
