Study to test seaworthiness of deepwater wind turbines (GRAPHIC)

(ORONO, Maine) — A University of Maine research center is involved in a project to determine the feasibility of wind turbines at sea, the New York Times reported. The Advanced Structures and Composites Center is working with an $8 million Department of Energy grant to study the seaworthiness of various floating wind turbines. Deepwater wind projects may have some benefits over shallow-water offshore wind projects.
