Russian tanker awaits Jones Act waiver before delivering fuel to Nome

(NOME, Alaska) — An ice-strengthened Russian tanker is waiting for a Jones Act waiver before it can make an emergency fuel delivery to Nome, Alaska Public Radio reported. Vitus Marine, owner of the Renda, says it’s getting support from American officials who want the waiver approved. The ship is nearing Dutch Harbor, where it plans to load the fuel next week en route to Nome, where the U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker Healy, plus skimming equipment and spill response assets from Chadux will be standing by.
