More commercial ships using ‘navigable’ Northwest Passage in 2009

(NUNAVUT, Canada) — At least three companies are planning to send ships through the Northwest Passage this year, the Canadian Press reported. Commercial traffic is likely to be triple the 2007 level. Arctic experts call the waterway “navigable” and say it could be “comparable to the St. Lawrence” if estimated ice-loss levels hold true.
