Cal Maritime cadets use simulators to practice difficult navigation

(VALLEJO, Calif.) — California Maritime Academy cadets are using the institution’s seven simulators to practice navigating through difficult situations including scenarios similar to the Cosco Busan disaster, the Vallejo Times Herald newspaper reported. In one recent exercise, a hypothetical tanker lost steering control while sailing under the Carquinez Bridge while a tug and barge were heading toward the vessel. Even San Francisco Bar Pilots and other professional mariners use Cal Maritime’s simulators.
