Feds may put an end to July 4 fireworks from ocean barges

(FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.) — The Coast Guard is still not sure if it will allow Fourth of July fireworks to be launched from ocean barges this year, the Sun Sentinal newspaper reported. The National Marine Fisheries Service also is considering the question of whether the tugs, barges, anchors and fireworks are harmful to sea turtles and coral. The Coast Guard suggests that communities formulate alternative plans just in case the permits can’t be issued.
