Mariner rescued after fall aboard ship

The following is text of a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard:

(MIAMI) —  A Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew medevaced a 24-year-old man on Thursday, Nov. 3, from the 656-foot vehicle carrier Hoegh Trident 35 miles south of Key Largo.

Watchstanders with the 7th Coast Guard District Command Center received notification at approximately 2:30 a.m. Thursday from the crew of the Hoegh Trident that a crewmember suffered back and leg injuries from a fall aboard the ship. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was briefed on the situation and recommended a medevac.

Coast Guard 7th District watchstanders directed the launch of an Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew who arrived on scene at approximately 4:15 a.m. Thursday and hoisted the man. The man was transferred to personnel from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department at Air Station Miami and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
