Great Lakes states sue to close shipping locks, keep Asian carp out

(CHICAGO) — Five Great Lakes states have sued to force governments to do more to prevent the Asian carp from reaching the lakes, the Chicago Tribune newspaper reported. The lawsuit against the Army Corps of Engineers and Illinois officials said the shipping locks at Chicago should be shuttered and other steps should be taken to keep the invasive fish from spreading into the Great Lakes. The Illinois Chamber of Commerce, which doesn’t want towboat traffic to be halted, argues that the carp problem is under control.
