Galveston pilots agree to drop 2-pilot requirement for cruise ships

(GALVESTON, Texas) — The Galveston-Texas City Pilots have agreed to drop their effort to require cruise ships to hire two pilots for each transit, the Galveston Daily News newspaper reported. In exchange for the concession, Galveston port officials must widen the channel in the area where the cruise ships turn around, and cruise operators will no longer object to fee increases. Two pilots will continue to be necessary for tankers.
