Former Staten Island ferry being dismantled in N.J.

(EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J.) — The owners of a former Staten Island ferry have abandoned plans to refurbish the vessel and instead are scrapping it, the Home News Tribune newspaper reported. The Searle family of East Brunswick have begun dismantling the Mary Murray at its longtime berth in the Raritan River. The Mary Murray was a fixture on the Staten Island Ferry service from 1937 to 1982, when the Searles bought it at auction.
