Four Ocean Victory crewmen were drunk, feds say

(BALTIMORE) — Federal prosecutors say four crewmen aboard the Ocean Victory were drunk during a dispute with a Chesapeake Bay pilot, the Baltimore Sun newspaper reported. Attorneys with the U.S. Justice Department said the crew had purchased a case of Budweiser before departing Baltimore, and one man drank eight of the beers. No one remained on the bridge with the pilot on the 328-foot ship’s outbound voyage, and later a drunk man with a knife shoved the pilot. The Coast Guard ordered the vessel halted, and the master was charged with failing to ensure that the wheelhouse was staffed by competent officers and failing to report to the Coast Guard that the crew was unfit to sail.
