(MIAMI) — Florida voters have approved a ballot measure that provides tax relief for maritime businesses, the South Florida Business Journal reported. Amendment 6 allows mariners’ property to be taxed on the basis of its actual usage, not its “highest and best” potential. Some maritime businesses saw their property taxes soar as nearby waterfront real estate was being developed into high-priced residential housing.
