Criticism levied at use of tugboat, dredging to clear river ice

(BELLEVILLE, Ontario) — A water conservation official has criticized the use of a tugboat to help clear frazil ice and alleviate flooding at the mouth of the Moira River, The Intelligencer newspaper of Belleville reported. The tug A.L. Killaly has been busy, along with a backhoe which is dredging the area. The conservation official says the expensive method has protected only two properties — a pub and a boat marina — from the flooding.
