Coast Guard investigating spate of whale strikes off California

(HALF MOON BAY, Calif.) — The Coast Guard is investigating a series of recent whale deaths due to ship strikes, the Half Moon Bay Review newspaper reported. At least three whales have been killed accidentally by ships this year. Experts are studying the shipping lanes into San Francisco Harbor and blue whale migration areas, and some are suggesting instituting a ship speed limit in whale zones.
