Clinton: New piracy plan to pressure Somalia, freeze assets

(WASHINGTON) — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has announced a new multi-pronged plan to battle piracy in the Gulf of Aden, the Voice of America reported. The plan includes pressuring Somali’s government to take control of the piracy networks’ land bases, freezing the assets of the gangs and stepping up international cooperation to protect the seas. Clinton said Somalia’s president realizes that the pirates are a threat to the future of his country, and the U.S. knows where the land bases are.
