Barges strike fishing boat in Tennessee River shipping channel

(STEVENSON, Ala.) — Barges being pushed by a tugboat struck a fishing boat in the Tennessee River, sending one angler plunging into the water while the other occupant climbed onto one of the barges, the Huntsville Times newspaper reported. The two were unhurt, and the tugboat crew helped them recover their boat, which was not seriously damaged. Investigators said the men were fishing for catfish in the middle of the shipping channel, sitting on lawn chairs with their backs facing upsteam. They didn’t see the barges coming, and the tugboat crew didn’t see their fishing boat.
