(Houston, TX–) ABS announces the election of Linwood (Lenny) Pendexter to the position of Corporate Senior Vice President and Chief Surveyor by the ABS Board of Directors at its recent meeting in New York.
Pendexter has been an active advocate for maritime safety throughout his career. He currently serves as the classification society’s Chief Surveyor, overseeing a global network of more than 1,400 surveyors. He plans to continue stressing the importance  of safety within and outside the organization. “Safety is the heart and soul of ABS and the role ABS plays in the maritime industry,” he says. “Safety is synonymous with ABS.”
Over his 34-year career with ABS, Pendexter has held increasingly senior positions as Field Surveyor, Senior Surveyor, Principal Surveyor, Director of Business Development – Tanker Projects, District Manager, Survey Manager, and Regional Vice President North America.
Pendexter represented ABS on both the Work Group and Steering Committee of the Tanker Structure Cooperative Forum and in recent years, served as the Chairman of the IACS Survey Panel. He was also Project Technical Committee Chairperson for the Ship Structure Committee on Inspection of Marine Structures and for the Detection Probability Assessment for Visual Inspection of Ships. He is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) and the American Welding Society (AWS).
