Xantrex Supports IYRS Educational Initiative with New “Power Partnership” and Freedom SW Series Donation

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 30, 2013 – (Marine NewsWire) Long supporter of organizations and individuals involved in worthwhile global and community initiatives, Xantrex Technology has become a sponsoring partner of the IYRS. IYRS is a marine trade and technology school offering full-time accredited programs in boat building and restoration, marine systems and composite technology. With campus locations in Newport and Bristol, R.I., IYRS students training for a marine-industry career will now enjoy a hands-on opportunity to work with the latest onboard AC power technology, thanks to the new Xantrex partnership and donations including two complete Freedom SW inverter/charger systems.
“We are very pleased to partner with the IYRS in this important career program,” said Xantrex Technology Vice President, Richard Gaudet. “Xantrex believes in conducting business in a socially responsible way. Certainly, helping students best prepare for a career in the marine industry by providing state-of-the-art onboard power systems from which to learn and work, should contribute to a better-educated technical workforce for the future. We are very happy to contribute and partner with the IYRS.”
Added Clark Poston, IYRS Vice President of Industry Development, “Our IYRS programs are experiential learning based and delivered in state-of-the-art labs with the latest equipment and technology. IYRS relies on the continued support of industry partners like Xantrex to equip these labs with modern equipment and technology. Thanks to generous support from Xantrex, IYRS marine systems students now learn about fuse types, AC safety, charging algorithms, system sizing, remote monitoring and other technical features. By installing the Xantrex Freedom SW system into their electrical panels, students calculate load capacities, learn sign wave form and ABYC installation specifications. Xantrex is a valuable partner to IYRS – training the next generation of systems technicians.”

According to Ed Sherman, ABYC Director of Educational Programming, such educational partnerships are crucial to the future of the marine industry.

“The value of marine industry corporate contributions such as Xantrex’s generous donation to IYRS cannot be understated,” said Sherman. “Schools such as IYRS need the help of industry partners to provide the top-quality educational experiences students need to become valued new members of the industry now and for the future. In the case of the types of equipment Xantrex has donated to the school, students will also benefit greatly by learning about the many ABYC standards that apply to the installation of this type of equipment.”

Students will be taught a variety of technical onboard AC power applications using the highly advanced Freedom SW Series. The best-selling Xantrex Freedom SW Series of inverters/chargers is the preferred power inverter/charger of choice in multiple industries including marine, RV and commercial service vehicle markets.
