Wind-aided cargo ship sets sail for Houston

(LONDON) — The 460-foot Beluga SkySails, the first modern cargo ship to use wind power, has been christened at Hamburg. Its maiden voyage is hauling windmills from Denmark to Houston, Cox News Service reported. Beluga Group said the vessel’s use of wind power will reduce fuel consumption and emissions by as much as 20 percent. Another company, KiteShip Corp. of Martinez, Calif., also plans to enter the cargo market in a new modern era of sail.
