Professional Mariner Staff
A GPA-designed 654 Platform Support Vessel.
(SEATTLE, WA – January 3, 2008) Slam Dunk, the fifth in a series of ten Guido Perla & Associates (GPA) 654 Platform Support Vessels, was christened today at Bollinger Shipyard in Lockport, Louisiana.
Slam Dunk joins First and Ten, Double Eagle, Triple Play and Grand Slam as part of Ridgon Marine’s GPA-designed fleet, which numbers 20 PSVs with this multi-vessel order. In addition to the 58-meter 654s, Rigdon’s fleet includes ten 64-meter GPA 640 PSVs.
Destined to serve deepwater offshore operations, the DP2- and FFV1-certified GPA 654 PSV is currently the smallest of the GPA Platform Support Vessel series. The design incorporates greater operating efficiency compared to similar sized vessels, increased cargo capacities, as well as reduced construction cost and increased fuel efficiency. The GPA 654s are capable of carrying 144 cubic meters of bulk material and 652 cubic meters of liquid mud in self-cleaning oval tanks.
Ridgon Marine placed the order for the ten GPA 654 PSVs in January 2006.
