(VERGENNES, Vt.) — A new sailing barge was launched this week on Lake Champlain to test the prospects for carbon-neutral shipping, Yale Environment 360 reported. The 39-foot Ceres is an updated version of the cargo vessels that once plied inland waterways throughout the Northeast. If testing goes well, the Vermont Sail Freight Project is planning a maiden voyage to New York City this fall.
