Towboat pilot sues Tenn. barge company over 12-hour rule (VIDEO)

(CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.) — An ex-employee is suing a Tennessee barge company, claiming he was fired for refusing to obey safety laws, the Chattanooga Times Free Press newspaper reported. The plaintiff alleges that Serodino Inc. forced towboat captains to work more than the federally mandated maximum of 12 hours per day. He is claiming to be a whistleblower who is entitled to back pay, and he says two fatal collisions involving the company’s vessels wouldn’t have happened if his complaints had been taken seriously.
