(NEW MATAMOROS, W.Va.) — A towboat and the coal barges it was pushing became stuck in the ice Tuesday on the Ohio River near the Willow Island Locks and Dam, the Parkersburg News and Sentinel reported. A U.S. Coast Guard spokesman in Huntington said another towboat and barge were dispatched to free the vessels. Willow Island officials said the river ice was at least an inch thick at the dam Tuesday afternoon, and it was expected to grow thicker Wednesday.
