Study: Hawaii ferry improvements can harm the environment

(HONOLULU) — An environmental impact statement for Hawaii ferry improvement projects found that the construction and operations can have negative impacts to the ecology, the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper reported. The terminal work at four state harbors and the new traffic could endanger humpback whales and increase the spread of invasive species. But the report says most of the negative impacts can be mitigated.
