Storm debris surveyors find possible Civil War ship (SONAR IMAGE)

(GALVESTON, Texas) — A underwater crew surveying the Gulf of Mexico for Hurricane Ike debris may have spotted a long lost Civil War ship, the Houston Cronicle newspaper reported. The Carolina departed Galveston in 1864 with a load of cotton, attempting to break the Union blockade. The vessel ran aground and was set ablaze. It was known to have sunk off Galveston Island but its exact whereabouts were unknown for 145 years.
