Crew escapes on raft after tug sinks in high wind off British Columbia

(HARDWICKE ISLAND, British Columbia) — Two crewmen narrowly escaped on a life raft after their tugboat sank in heavy weather near Campbell River, B.C., the Times Colonist newspaper of Victoria reported. High winds and treacherous waves swept over the 42-foot Island Provider I so fast that the men couldn’t make a mayday call. Their raft washed ashore on Hardwicke Island, while their two barges remained anchored in place by the sunken tug.
