Staten Island Ferry cutting back on engineers, deckhands

(STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.) — The Staten Island Ferry will trim about $6 million from its 2010 budget, the Staten Island Advance newspaper reported. Ferry management will not longer station engineers on boats when the vessels are not in service, and one position is being eliminated. The John F. Kennedy, which requires one fewer deckhand than the other boats, will be used more often.
