Signal gets $4.5 million contract to repair MSC tanker

The following is the text of a news release from Signal International:

(MOBILE, Ala.) — Signal Ship Repair (SSR), a division of Signal International, Inc., has been awarded a $4,500,000 contract for the repair and dry docking of the USNS Lawrence H. Gianella. The 615’ product tanker is a Military Sealift Command-owned vessel managed by Ocean Ships Inc. of Houston, Texas. The ship is due to arrive in May and will be in the yard for 45 days.

According to Bob Beckmann, SSR’s senior VP and general manager, across-the-board craft hiring of some 150 workers will commence in early May in order to carry out numerous work items. The tasks to be performed include a quarters upgrade, steel repair, blasting and painting, shaft and propeller work and other miscellaneous items.
