Shipping losses declined in 2013, but industry faces emerging risks, study finds

(NEW YORK) — Shipping losses continued their downward trend in 2013 with 94 losses reported worldwide, according to Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE. The insurer's second annual Safety and Shipping Review, which includes reported shipping losses of more than 100 gross tons, came in below 100 for only the second time in 12 years. Losses declined by 20 percent from 2012.
