Research boat christened in Virginia

The following is text of a news release from JMS Naval Architects:

(YORKTOWN, Va.) — On Friday, April 26, R/V Virginia was christened by first lady of Virginia Pam Northam at the Yorktown waterfront before a large gathering of friends and supporters.

The 93-foot research vessel is the new flagship of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) fleet and a platform for VIMS scientists who are advancing the understanding of marine environments in the bay and on the ocean.

R/V Virginia was designed by JMS Naval Architects and built by Meridien of Matane, Quebec.
