OSV allegedly strikes Gulf gas platform, causes fire

(PORT FOURCHON, La.) — An offshore supply vessel allegedly struck an unmanned natural gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico, causing a fire that was extinguished by other vessels in the area, KATC.com reported. The U.S. Coast Guard and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) are investigating the incident, which occurred at about 0430 on Friday about five miles south of Port Fourchon. Production on the platform, operated by Energy XXI, was shut down.
