Official: Staten Island Ferry crash caused by transformer failure

(STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.) — Wednesday’s Staten Island Ferry crash was caused by the failure of a transformer followed by the de-activation of three other transformers, the Staten Island Advance reported. Fifteen people were injured when the John J. Marchi lost power and smashed into its slip. The most serious injury was a dislocated elbow.
