Nova Scotia shipyard to lay off 45, but not because business is slow

(SHELBURNE, Nova Scotia) — Shelburne Ship Repair will lay off a total of 45 people by the middle of this month, the Chronicle Herald newspaper of Halifax reported. The furloughs aren’t because of the weak economy or slow orders. The government-agency-owned yard needs vital improvements to its wharf and rails before it can accept any more work.
