North Carolina to study state’s ‘maritime economic strategy’

(RALEIGH, N.C.) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation will oversee a $1.7million “maritime economic strategy” study, the Star-News newspaper reported. The report will focus on how maritime initiatives can create jobs. While critics say the report may be used to bolster an argument for a new deepwater port they oppose, supporters say it’s worth studying how the region can benefit from the Panama Canal expansion.
