New training targets small-craft professional mariners

The following is the text of a news release from Confident Captain/Ocean Pros:

(NEWPORT, R.I.) — Confident Captain/Ocean Pros will forge new training ground in the Fall of 2013 with the introduction of the "Confident Captain Skill Builder" series. The courses are custom-designed, professional development courses for small craft professional mariners.

Small craft pros make up the majority of the United States maritime fleet; more than half of US Coast Guard license holders are small craft professional mariners working on vessels of 100 gross tons or less. These professional mariners are a critical component within the US economy, and have the largest public impact impact along our coastline. They include first responders, ferry boat operators, launch drivers, harbormasters, fishermen and yacht crews.

However, training in America is often geared toward large vessel captains and crews. Consequentially, there is a gap for necessary skills development. Confident Captain/Ocean Pros will fill this gap with their proprietary professional-grade training courses: the "Confident Captain Skill Builder" series.

Confident Captain/Ocean Pros, along with some of the marine industry's top professionals, have produced world-class training opportunities for small craft professional mariners. The classes not only help improve mariners' skill sets, but also provide credible resume building components. The skill builder series also provides a great opportunity for serious cruisers and racers to further develop their skills.

"There is a large demand for the quality training experience amongst small craft professional mariners," said Capt. Kent Dresser, president and founder of Confident Captain/Ocean Pros.

"We are delighted to have teamed up with some of the nation's top maritime professionals to develop unique training experiences. Small craft professional mariners have one of the largest a public and economic impacts on our nation's coast line. They warrant world-class training in a professional environment."

The ever-growing course list currently includes: diesel engine , radar, electronic navigation, maritime law, leadership, safety and survival, and marine weather.
