(ONAWAY, Mich.) — Moran Iron Works recently received a contract from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to build a research vessel for its Green Bay, Wis., field office. The aluminum-hulled vessel will be nearly 57 feet long and feature twin diesel engines, along with the equipment needed for the service to conduct its research on the Great Lakes.

MIW will be fabricating the vessel at its Onaway, Mich., facility over the next nine to 12 months, with an expected launch at MIW’s Port Calcite facility in Rogers City, Mich., during late summer 2017.
