Missouri wants to create river barge freight corridor (PHOTO)

(RICHMOND, Mo.) — The state of Missouri wants to boost freight barge traffic on the Missouri River, the Daily News newspaper reported. Officials expect more container volume to reach the inland rivers from the Gulf of Mexico after the 2014 Panama Canal expansion, and a river freight corridor could be a more efficient and cleaner way to move the cargo through the heartland. The plan, however, hinges on the willingness of upriver dams to release more water.
