(MARINETTE, Wis.) — Marinette Marine, along with Lockheed Martin, have been awarded a contract to build the next Navy combat ship, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal newspaper reported. The vessel will be similar to the USS Freedom, which was launched in 2008. The new contract from the Navy is expected to prevent further layoffs at Marinette.
