(FLORENCE, Ala.) — Mariners and trade groups in the Tennessee Valley are advocating a new container-on-barge system, the Times Daily newspaper of Florence reported. The Army Corps of Engineers said the Tennessee River locks could handle twice as much barge traffic as they do today. The maritime cargo system would reduce the need for trucks.
