MarAd hires contractor to remove old paint from Suisun Bay fleet

(BENICIA, Calif.) — The Maritime Administration has awarded a contract to remove exfoliating paint from the fleet of obsolete ships in Suisun Bay, the Contra Costa Times reported. Certified Coatings won the contract, worth as much as $3.5 million over five years. Environmentalists have complained that the old paint is polluting the bay.
