Lock maintenance may disrupt mariners on Columbia, Snake rivers

(SEATTLE) — Lock maintenance along the Columbia River and Snake River likely will cause some martime disruptions this year, the Seattle Times newspaper and Capital Press reported. The Army Corps of Engineers plans to close three locks this winter for needed upgrades. Agricultural shippers are considering options to reduce the disruptions, and Tidewater Barge Lines says most of the region’s wheat will move down the river before the Dec. 15 closures.
