LNG to be the dominant ship fuel within 40 years, DNV says

(LONDON) — Liquified natural gas will be the dominant fuel to power merchant ships by 2050, according to Det Norske Veritas, Bloomberg News reported. Environmental regulations passed by the International Maritime Organization, including Emission Control Areas, will force ship operators to run on cleaner fuel, with LNG eventually proving to be the preferred choice, the classification society said. At least 100 vessels already are powered by LNG.
