Kentucky Lake Bridge Gets Replacement Span

These were taken May 14 as the 322-foot, 300-ton-plus span traveled 30 miles from the Lyon County Riverport on Lake Barkley to the Eggners Ferry Bridge site on Kentucky Lake in Kentucky where it was lifted into place the next day to replace the span that was knocked into the lake by the cargo ship Delta Mariner on Jan. 26th.

These were taken as the bridge passed through the Barkley Canal to continue the trek to the Eggners Ferry bridge site to be lifted into place.

In addition to the barge carrying the bridge span, the tow included two deck barges, each carrying one of two heavy lift cranes that were used to lift the span into place.

The tow was moved by the 1,800-hp towboat Crosby Renegade, owned and operated by Crosby Marine Transportation, LLC of Golden Meadow, LA.

The $7 million bridge was built at the Lyon County Riverport by Hall Contracting of Kentucky, based in Louisville and the cranes and lift services were provided by Sterett Crane & Rigging of Owensboro, KY.

The bridge is scheduled to be open to traffic by Memorial Day weekend.
