Incentive bill expected to create 1,000 jobs at Gulfport shipyard

(JACKSON, Miss.) — State lawmakers have agreed to borrow $274 million and provide millions in tax breaks for a new tire plant in Hinds County and a shipyard in Gulfport, The Clarion-Ledger reported. As part of the deal, Edison Chouest plans to invest $68 million to expand the Topship yard on the Industrial Seaway, which the company expects will create 1,000 jobs. Topship makes service and supply vessels for offshore oil and gas exploration rigs.
