(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) — A Florida maritime safety trainer conducted a simulation Monday to show how a ship like El Faro would behave in 35-foot-seas, and the vessel capsized, television station WJXT reported. The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into the disappearance of El Faro, a TOTE ro-ro ship that hasn't been heard from since it lost propulsion in a hurricane on Thursday. A maritime attorney said the operator and captain took a risk in attempting the voyage in the vicinity of the tropical storm, which eventually strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane.
